Spokes for Folks is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that refurbishes donated bicycles that are then given to children of families that could not otherwise afford to buy them.

Events

At our wrench event on December 11, we fixed 82 bikes!!! Thanks to everyone who came out, there may be a few more wrench events to fill the holiday orders.

About Us

History

Spokes for Folks is a non-profit corporation that was founded in July 2000 by two Texas teens, Armond and Andrew Schwartz. It began when the two brothers were clearing out their garage and decided to repair the old bikes that had been sitting there for years. It amazed them that something that they actually liked to do could have such a tremendous impact on other kids. Over the Christmas break, they picked up thirty bikes from neighborhood families and those from school, cleaned and repaired them, and donated them to the Boys and Girls Clubs for distribution. Since then, their project gained rising support. Both the City of Dallas Volunteer Center and the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge recognized their work. In 2008, Pam Jackson of DORBA along with students Noah Goetz and Liz Livingston revitilized the organization. Spokes continues to grow and develop. With the ongoing support of volunteers in the cycling community, including DORBA, Spokes for Folks has now donated over 3, 325 bicycles to a variety of organizations, listed on our donations page. Wrench Events

A Wrench Event is a day where volunteers come together to help fix the bikes we have in our storage unit. These usually last about four hours. We are always looking for experienced volunteers to help those with less experience.

If you wish to donate, we ask for gently used bicycles that only need new tubes, tires, and chains.

Since we are a non-profit, it isn’t cost effective for us to accept bicycles which require lots of work. If you are in doubt, please send a photo or brief description to GiveABike.
